Technology conversations go better when they begin with relationship instead of panic. Rules matter, but children and teenagers also need help learning wisdom, self-control, honesty, and what to do when something goes wrong.
Start with one calm conversation
- Ask what they enjoy online and what makes them uncomfortable.
- Explain the reason behind your boundaries.
- Decide together where devices sleep and when they are put away.
- Make it safe for them to tell you about mistakes, pressure, or harmful content.
The goal is not simply to control a device. It is to help your child become a wise person who knows they can come to you.
Pastoral support matters. Church care and trusted resources can help, but they do not replace emergency, medical, legal, or licensed mental-health care when those are needed.
