Baptism is an important, faith-filled response to Jesus. The goal is not to rush a child toward a moment they do not understand, but we also do not want to dismiss sincere faith simply because they are young.
Questions worth asking
- Can they explain who Jesus is in their own words?
- Do they understand sin, grace, and why they need Jesus?
- Is this their desire, or are they mainly responding to pressure?
- Can they describe what baptism means and why they want to be baptized?
A conversation with a pastor or family-ministry leader can help your family discern readiness without turning baptism into a test they have to pass.
Pastoral support matters. Church care and trusted resources can help, but they do not replace emergency, medical, legal, or licensed mental-health care when those are needed.
